PS4 release on the horizon?

With the pace of the console system market, it’s no surprise that discussions about the direction of Sony’s next-generation console are already underway. The next system, unofficially titled “PS4″, will likely build on the success of its predecessor, the Playstation 3. A potential release date of late 2012 has been mentioned via several online sources but no official date has been announced by Sony.

Reports of new component patent filings by Sony in July of this year have added to the buzz in the blogosphere. Despite speculation, Sony has stated they are happy with the direction of their Playstation 3 console and hope to continue building on its success. Many of its current developers have stated the system is not even close to its full potential in terms of the titles that have been released.

Sony has been known to stay ahead of the curve in terms of its console releases which make the release of the Playstation 4 PRIOR to the next Xbox console highly likely. Stay tuned for updates!

Rumors surround the next-generation Xbox 720

Rumors have been floating around for some time now regarding Microsoft’s next generation console set to follow the success of the Xbox 360. Unofficially titled the “Xbox 720″, the next generation console will likely have graphics on par with the hit film “Avatar”. The newest Xbox iteration is also likely to overlap with the Xbox 360. This means Microsoft will continue to support and develop material for the Xbox 360 while it builds support for its next-generation console.

Most rumors floating around have put the announcement date somewhere around E3 2012 but sources closest to Microsoft say that the actual date is more likely to be in 2014. With the implementation of the Kinect, Microsoft says that they are happy with the direction that their system is heading and that market share is at an acceptable level.

Seems to be a long way off before we see anything new. Careful not to hold your breath!
